1998 bleaching photos

John de Rooy (Tablelands Photographyprovided the 1998 Halfway Island aerials.

GBRMPA contracted John to take vertical aerial photographs of Geoffrey Bay, Virago shoals and Halfway Island during the 1998 bleaching event in order to remotely quantify coral cover and bleaching.

The photos were taken with film cameras under very difficult conditions and are a testament to the combined skills of the operators.

They found that the optimal resolution necessary to capture spatial patterns of bleaching is in the range 40–80 cm [76].

Other bleaching photos

The remaining photos of the Keppels bleaching events in 2002 and 2006 and the 2008-10 biodiversity study were provided by Ray Berkelmans, Alison Jones and AIMS .
